February in Review by 5P

February was a very cold and busy month at Harry Gray.  Despite the freezing temperatures and many bus days, students still managed to find the time to participate in a lot of activities.

The month began with the welcoming of new faces to the school.  Miss Kerri joined the Grade 6 team, and Mrs. Gignac joined the Grade 4 team.  Another familiar face was around the school for the month of February.  Amanda Roy from Greenview FCSS came in and taught students about the changing of their bodies through Body Talk presentations for each grade.

The students embraced the winter weather by practicing Skating at the Polar Palace.  Every week classes hit the ice to practice their skating skills with timed races and Pillow Polo.  Students also celebrated the magic of winter on February 12th by going on the community Winter Walk to the Multiplex where they got the chance to warm up with a delicious cup of hot chocolate before braving the journey back to school.

Mid month, staff and students celebrated Valentine's Day by wearing white, pink and red to school and participating in various classroom activities.   Students have had the opportunity to learn new skills during lunch time through participating in the craft and singing club.  On Tuesdays and Thursdays for the month, Mrs. Gignac and Mrs. Beazer have been sharing their expertise with students as they learn choir songs and how to make an Axolotl.

February has wrapped up with warmer weather and the recognition of Pink Shirt day on February 26th.  Students donned their best pink attire to recognize and stand up to bullying in schools.  As we are sad to see February and all of its fun go, we are eagerly anticipating March.  The upcoming month brings skiing at Little Smokey, Teacher’s Convention and Spring Break.
